CLINICAL EVALUATION OF FAILURE RATE OF CROWN AND FIXED PARTIAL DENTURE IN TRIPOLI CENTRAL DENTAL CLINIC

ABSTRACT The aim of this denture study was to document the failure rate and length of service of crown and fixed partial bridge (FPD) in Tripoli Central Dental Clinic- Libya. Also the number of retainers, pontics, and the types of restoration were recorded. By examining 78 patients with 306 crown and bridge unites from the Tripoli Central Dental Clinic and collecting data related to the bridge area the data collated were subjected to descriptive analysis. The result of the study revealed that the pain was the most frequent complication observed on 36% of all the patients while aesthetic was the lowest with less than 2% of the patients.

Assessment of Failure related Factors in Crown and Fixed Partial Denture among Patients Attending Tripoli Central Dental Clinic: A Retrospective Study

Treatment carried out with a fixed partial denture (FPD) is one of the most accepted and desired by patients. However, it is a long procedure and cause high expectations from the patient. Once the clinician knows the factors that make dissatisfaction or related to failures, the dentist could reduce them and so meet all the patient’s need and set up the most suitable planning. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of failures/clinical complications of the fixed prosthesis and to document the failure related factors that may affect the length of service of crown and fixed partial bridge (FPD) in Tripoli Central Dental Clinic/Libya. Also, the number of retainers, pontics, and the types of restoration were recorded. By examining 74 patients with 297 crown and bridge unites from the Tripoli Central Dental Clinic and collecting data related to the bridge area the data collated were subjected to descriptive analysis. A total of 74 patients were included in the study. Clinical evaluations of the patients were performed. Data were tabulated and patients with failure in prosthesis were calculated in percentage. The result of the study revealed that the pain was the most frequent complication observed on 56.8% of all the patients, under contour of the retainer has been found in 56.8% with an open margin in 73% and open proximal spaces with 48.6% of all subjects. Pain and open margins were the most frequent complications observed on 56.8%, 73% of all the patients respectively. Position of 78% of the cases were in the upper arch and four unites bridges found to be most frequent failed bridges in 27% of the subjects.

Effect of Veneering Technique on Color Matching of Translucent Ice Zirconia Substructure Veneered with Lithium Disilicate Using Pressable Technique Versus Conventional Layering Technique: An In-Vitro Study

ABSTRACT Aim. This study evaluated the effect of different veneering techniques on the color of translucent Ice zirconia substructure. Methods. A total of twenty translucent Ice Zirconia disc samples 12 mm in a diameter, 0.5 mm in thickness were designed and constructed using zirkonzahn system. The samples were classified into two groups: Group I: (n = 10) veneered by layering technique using IPS emax Ceram 1.0 mm thickness, dentin shade A2. Group II (n = 10) veneered by press-on technique using IPS emax press in-got 1.0 mm thickness, shade A2. Twenty composite resin discs 12mm in diameter and 5mm in thickness in A3 shade, were fabricated to be bonded to ceramic specimens using Dual-curing translucent rely X Unicem automix Self-Adhesive Resin luting cement. The color measurement was done using a spectrophotometer unit and ΔE was calculated. Color parameters were obtained using a spectrophotometer and were used to calculate color difference value with the preselected required color A2 tab according to Vita Classical shade guide (target shade). Color difference value (ΔE=3.7) was considered a clinically acceptable color match. Data were presented as means and standard deviation (SD) values. The independent t-test was used to compare between veneering techniques with 1mm veneer thickness. Results. The results showed that veneering techniques had a significant effect on mean (ΔE) values at P ≤ 0.001. The Press-on technique showed higher statistical significance difference (ΔE) Values (4.55±0.93) than layering technique (ΔE) Values (2.25±1.04) at p ≤ 0.001. Conclusion. The proper color matching of veneered zirconia is greatly affected by the veneering techniques. The layering technique is preferred regarding color matching.
